For the research, I conducted interviews and focus group discussions with both teachers and students. Based on the findings, I concluded that students learn more effectively with contextual learning. Based on literary readings such as Julian H. Steward, visits to the maritime museum, and discussions with local historians, a culture is a product of its people and environment. Therefore, I decided to make the illustrations based on an ecological-anthropology context.

Because this app is targeted for children, I decided to use vibrant colours yet maintain an earthly tone. During the focus group discussions. I showed the students various existing encyclopedias, I found that they still enjoyed it as long as there were interesting explanations, lots of illustrations, and interactive. I decided to focus more on how to tell the story of the relations between nature, the boats, and the people.

The final outcome is interactive encyclopedia who children can click around, read short naratives, watch animations, and play games.
